The case of the eight coins:
You have eight coins the same size, but one is lighter than the others. You have scales. How can you find the lighter coin with two measurements? You can only measure twice! (The scales are only able to determine which side is lighter or heavier.)

Case of the three lamps and three switches:
There is a room with 3 switches which correspond to 3 bulbs in another room and you don't know which switch corresponds to which bulb. You can only enter the room with the bulbs to check once.
How do you find out which switch corresponds to which bulb?
Notes: The switches are all turned off when you start. The doors, windows are closed and the light (bulb) is not visible from the outside. The switches are normally connected: 1 switch controls 1 bulb. You cannot use any external equipment.

Which way should I go?
You have lost your way in a desert. You have to find an oasis otherwise you will die of thirst. You reach an intersection.
There are twins sitting there. They are special, one always lies, the other always tells the truth. Both know the right way to the oasis.
You can ask each of them a single (same) question. What do you ask?

Case of two mathematicians
Two mathematicians meet. They haven't seen each other for ages. They sit in café and start a conversation.

Abyss
One night four wanderers reach an abyss which can be crossed on a plank (wooden bridge).
The plank is strong enough to hold maximum two people at a time.
It is dark and they only have one lamp. They are not able to cross the bridge without the lamp and can not throw it over to the other side either so someone must go back with it.
They know that one of them is able to cross the bridge in 1 minute, the other in 2 minutes, the third in 5 and the fourth in 10. If two of them cross the bridge, they can only walk at the slower person's speed.
The battery of their lamp lasts 17 minutes.
How can they cross the bridge?

Going nuts
In a factory there are 9 turning lathes, with one worker at each.
They produce screws, all the same size.
After the end of the shift when no one is there the supervisor checks the work. He only knows that one of the workers produced faulty screws which are lighter than the others.
All the workers put their screws in their own boxes, the same number in each.
He has to find out who produces the faulty screws.
He has scales. He knows the weight of the good and the faulty screws. He is in a hurry so he can only use the scales once!
The task is to find the faulty box of screws. How is it possible?

You have one 3 liter bottle and another 5 liter one.
You have to serve 4 liters of water.
